Leadership Training Institute

The Leadership Training Institute is comprised of interactive, culturally competent training and educational opportunities for staff, external partners, and community members on capacity building; HIV education and outreach; policy and advocacy; evaluation; and other relevant issues related to working with vulnerable populations. Training’s are conducted both virtually and in-person.

Community Mobilization

The Community Mobilization Program seeks to change attitudes and responses related to HIV/STI/HCV prevention through increased counselling, testing, and linkage to care; maximizing participation in health insurance programs; and PrEP/nPEP awareness and education in alignment with the goals of the NYS Ending the Epidemic Blueprint.

Includes internal training for staff and grantees on various subjects, including, but not limited to:

  • Partnership building
  • Workshop/activity planning
  • Leadership/advocacy
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Marketing/media
  • Materials development

Also includes training of external community partners, including, but not limited to:

  • Strategies to increase sub-group specific targeting (ex. women and LGBT) in outreach to black communities
  • Linking the impact of programs to policies affecting black communities (and vice versa); legislative advocacy
  • Strategies to provide outreach and engage youth

 

Capacity Building

  • Training for providers includes, but is not limited to:
  • Clinical/medical student curriculum
  • Cultural competency and social justice
  • Training for faith-based partners, including but not limited to:
  • Stigma reduction
  • LGBT sensitivity and outreach

 

Technical Training

Specific training for internal and external participants is given on specific topics, such as:

  • HIV counseling and testing protocols
  • Hepatitis C outreach and education
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) 101 (HIV prevention)
